Calf: Research
We each have seen nice looking or powerful calf muscles. But, regardless of how they look, do we know what they really do? This edition of the Functional Video Digest Series is called the Calf - The Achilles Hip, muscles, tendons, and joints that are so interconnected, so co-dependent, that Gary Gray won’t even discuss them in isolation from one another. In this issue Gary explains the true function of the peroneus longus and the gastrocnemius, and describes how the other numerous muscles in the lower leg have a relationship with the foot. In this edition Gary takes functional analysis even further to explain how the calf plays a very significant role in controlling the trunk and thoracic spine. For, the point of functional analysis, rehabilitation, and training is to understand movement as it actually occurs in real life. So, for Gary Gray, if you want to treat or prevent injuries to the Achilles tendon, you better take a close look at the hip.
