Sales leadership and experience building sales processes, supported by a background in fitness, therapy, and healthcare equipment.

Gray Institute is excited to welcome Ben Pawson as our Director of Sales. Ben brings experience leading sales teams, developing people, and building sales processes, along with firsthand experience in fitness and physical therapy settings.

He will help individual professionals and organizations explore their educational goals and find the right opportunities through Gray Institute. He will also help strengthen our sales process so customers receive thoughtful guidance and consistent follow-up.

The professionals who come to Gray Institute want to provide the best possible care, training, and guidance to the people counting on them. Helping those professionals choose education that fits their needs is an important responsibility.

“Each professional who comes to Gray Institute has people counting on them,” said Dr. Gary Gray. “Ben understands that responsibility. We’re excited for the care and encouragement he will bring as he helps our community continue to learn, grow, and serve.”

Sales experience built around people

At Life Time, Ben held fitness sales and management roles, leading teams while overseeing client relationships and departmental operations. He recruited, trained, and coached team members and developed sales processes to support their work. That experience gave him an understanding of the responsibilities fitness professionals carry and the support they need to grow.

At NuStep, Ben worked in healthcare equipment sales, building relationships with healthcare leaders and navigating purchasing decisions involving multiple stakeholders. He also developed a national accounts acquisition playbook, bringing structure to how sales opportunities were pursued.

His background also includes account management and business development at United Road Services, where he worked with new and existing accounts and presented to senior decision-makers.

Together, these experiences equip Ben to support both the professional choosing education for themselves and the organization investing in a team.

“Ben understands the importance of listening before recommending a solution,” said Doug Gray. “His experience working with individuals, developing teams, and supporting organizational decisions will help us serve our community well. We’re excited for him to help people connect what they want to accomplish with the education that can support them.”

Experience in fitness and therapy

Ben’s experience in fitness is complemented by his time at 3DPT Physical Therapy, where he supported patients and worked alongside many GIFT Fellows while earning his FAFS credential. That clinical experience gives him additional perspective on the needs of professionals working in therapy and the people they serve.

Ben earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Grand Valley State University in 2014. That same year, he completed Gray Institute’s GIFT program and earned his Fellow of Applied Functional Science (FAFS) credential. His education supports his knowledge of Applied Functional Science® and human movement, helping him understand the educational opportunities available through Gray Institute.

Helping you find your next step

Choosing professional education involves important questions. What do you want to learn? How does it relate to your current work? What depth of study, format, and commitment fit your goals?

Ben will help professionals work through those questions, whether they are exploring Gray Institute for the first time, building on previous education, or considering learning opportunities for a team.

“As a GIFT Fellow, I know how meaningful it is to keep learning and consider new possibilities for the people you serve,” said Ben. “I’m excited to hear what professionals are working toward, understand where they need support, and help them find an educational path that makes sense for them.”

We’re grateful to have Ben on our team. His sales leadership, experience building processes, and understanding of fitness and therapy will help us care for the individuals and organizations who place their trust in Gray Institute.
